Billing and Coding Technology with Federal Jobs

Medical billing and coding professionals who have experience with technological developments like Electronic Health Records (EHRs) are likely to find their skills in demand going forward with federal jobs in the future.

Recently the Department of Defense announced it was soliciting bids for a company to award its Healthcare Management System Modernization contract. Worth approximately $11 billion, this project will modernize the Military Health System in an attempt to improve efficiency and care. Scheduled to be awarded in June of 2015, some of the top names in electronic health records and software development have joined forces to make a competitive proposal.

This modernization points towards the growing importance and need for medical billing and coding professionals who are well versed in the latest technological developments. It also follows the trend established by the 2009 HITECH Act, or Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, which established an incentive program for medical service providers to switch to using EHRs over more inefficient paper and non-digital health records.
