With a projected 12 percent growth rate through 2020, Pennsylvania’s health care industry will likely continue expanding over at least the coming decades. This is due to several factors, not least of which is the increasing percentage of persons over the age of 65, who have far greater encounters with the health care industry than most other population segments. By the year 2022, the over-65 percentage will increase to 12 percent of the state’s total population, and by 2030 this number is projected to be 16 percent, according to statistics released by the Social Security Administration and an AARP report.
